You have found the UGGs you want. Then the size selector appears and the doubt kicks in: are you a 4 or a 5? Is that a UK size or a US size? And didn't someone say UGGs stretch?

Sizing is one of the biggest worries when buying UGG boots and slippers online, and for good reason. A pair that feels perfect on day one can feel different a few weeks later, and the same number can mean three different sizes depending on the country.

The big idea: UGG sizing gets easy once you separate two questions — which number system you are reading, and how the style itself fits. Answer both and you are far more likely to order the right pair first time.

This guide explains UK vs EU vs US sizes, how the most popular styles tend to fit, and how to measure your feet at home. Browse the full range in our UGG collection while you read.

Do UGGs run big or small?

The most common advice you will hear is that classic styles such as the Classic Mini and Classic Ultra Mini tend to feel roomy rather than small, especially once the soft lining settles. The lining feels plush when new, then compresses with wear, which gives your foot a little more space over time.

That is why many people who are between sizes choose the smaller of the two for classic boots worn without socks. If you always wear thick socks, the larger size may suit you better.

Slippers and slip-on styles behave a little differently, because there is no shaft to hold your foot in place. A snug fit helps them stay on when you walk. Sneakers such as the Lowmel are closer to a regular trainer fit.

Fit is personal, so treat these as rules of thumb, not guarantees. Your own foot measurement is always the best guide.

UK vs EU vs US: how to read the size selector

On our product pages, each size shows all three systems together, for example "EU 36 – US 5 – UK 3". That means you do not have to convert anything yourself: find the number you know and the other two are right next to it.

Here is the women's conversion shown on our size guide:

UK EU US
3 36 5
4 37 6
5 38 7
6 39 8
7 40 9

Two things to notice:

  • UK and US are two sizes apart for women. A UK 4 is a US 6. It is an easy mistake to mix these up when shopping online.
  • Women's styles on our site are offered in whole sizes. If you are normally a half size, you will need to decide whether to go up or down (see below).

Men's styles, such as the men's Tasman suede slippers, use their own size range. Always use the sizes listed on that specific product page.

Half size? Go up or down?

  • Classic boots worn barefoot or with thin socks: many people go down to the nearest whole size, because the lining settles with wear.
  • Classic boots worn with thick socks: going up is usually more comfortable.
  • Slippers and slip-ons: a snug fit helps them stay on, so many choose the smaller size.
  • Sneakers: choose the size you normally wear in trainers.

How popular styles tend to fit

Classic Mini and Classic Ultra Mini

The Classic Mini and Classic Ultra Mini are the styles most people mean when they ask whether UGGs run big. Both have a soft lining that feels snug at first and relaxes over time. The Ultra Mini has a shorter shaft, which makes it easier to slip on and off.

Platform styles

Platform versions such as the Classic Ultra Mini Platform add height under the sole but generally follow the same fit logic as the classic boot they are based on.

Tazz and Tasman

These slip-on styles, such as the Tazz II and the Tasman, are open at the back, so your heel is not held in by a shaft. A close fit helps them stay on your foot. We compare the two in detail in our separate Tasman vs Tazz guide.

Lowmel sneakers

The Lowmel is a sneaker, so it is closer to your usual trainer size than to a classic boot.

How to measure your feet at home

  1. Do it in the evening, when your feet are at their largest.
  2. Stand on a sheet of paper with your heel against a wall.
  3. Mark the tip of your longest toe.
  4. Measure from the wall to the mark.
  5. Repeat for the other foot and use the longer measurement.
  6. Compare with the chart on our size guide and the sizes shown on the product page.

How should UGGs feel when they fit?

Once your pair arrives, try them on indoors on a clean floor. A good fit usually feels like this:

  • Toes: your toes should not be pressed hard against the front, but there should not be a big gap either.
  • Width: snug and cosy around the sides of your foot, without painful pressure points.
  • Heel: in boots, a little heel lift when walking is normal at first. In slip-ons, your heel should stay on the footbed as you walk.
  • Overall: slightly snug is usually better than loose for styles with a soft lining, because the lining tends to relax.

If they feel clearly too small or too large, check our store policies before wearing them outside.

Common sizing mistakes

  1. Confusing UK and US sizes. For women they are two sizes apart. Always check which system you are reading.
  2. Judging the fit only on day one. Soft linings feel snug at first and relax with wear.
  3. Ordering your sneaker size in a classic boot without thinking about socks. Decide how you will wear them first.
  4. Assuming every style fits the same. Boots, slip-ons and sneakers behave differently.
  5. Using a size chart from another site. Use the sizes shown on the product page you are buying from.

Recap

Read the size selector carefully (UK, EU and US are shown together), measure your feet in the evening, and think about the style: classic boots tend to relax with wear, slip-ons need a close fit and sneakers follow your usual trainer size.

Frequently asked questions

Do UGGs run big or small?

Classic UGG boots are commonly described as roomy, partly because the lining compresses with wear. Many people between sizes choose the smaller size for boots worn without thick socks.

Should I size up or down in UGGs?

For classic boots worn barefoot or with thin socks, many people size down. With thick socks, sizing up is usually more comfortable. For slip-ons, a close fit helps them stay on.

What is a UK 4 in EU UGG sizes?

On our women's size guide, UK 4 corresponds to EU 37 and US 6.

Do UGGs come in half sizes?

The women's styles on our site are offered in whole sizes. Check each product page for the sizes available.
